Week Seven

Sent: Monday, June 11, 2012 11:46 AM

Hi Mom!!

This week flew by too. We've got some promising investigators but unfortunately nobody came to church this week. It's frustrating because I feel like that is the easiest part of conversion is just getting to church, but we have needed to do a better job of having people from the ward in the lessons so they have friends they can identify with when they come. We've been decently busy, and I'm continuing to work hard.

Elder Watchman hasn't seen as much success as he deserves and I think that that gets to him when things don't go as planned. We had a cool experience this week, Elder Watchman had this impression to tract down this street in Curepe, so we went. We said a prayer before and the spirit was so strong, I knew we had to be there for a reason. The first house we went up to this guy was of the Apostolic faith. He attacked us with Bible Scriptures saying that our church wasn't true and that we did things wrong. It was the first time that we had really gotten attacked. It wasn't the most fun experience, but two houses down from him we ended up finding a less active youth named Shaquille and his mother who isn't baptized. We shared a little about our message and she agreed to meet with us again. I know that Shaquille and Beverly are the reason Elder Watchman was led to that street and the blessing that followed the trial of the really disagreeable man. It was a testimony to me of the work that we're doing and that if we listen to the Spirit we can be guided to those who have been prepared. It was really cool.

We got fed twice this past Sunday, sooooo much food haha I am doing my best to continue exercising and taking care to eat as good as I can. Thats crazy that Lynn is the Stake President. He'll do a great job. That will be cool to see him and be released by him. I'm glad you and dad are getting the opportunity to exercise and motivate each other too. Use that support system. Also I have a challenge for you guys. Read the Book of Mormon, everyday, together. It has helped my testimony grow so much just over these past few weeks I cannot even express it to you. I know it will keep you guys sane with all the other stuff going on. I love you mom! Oh and some of the members were requesting a picture of Eric and I together, could you send that to me? Thanks!! I love you!!

Hey Dad!!

Thats so sweet about Lynn and DenBoer (new head coach of the boys basketball team)!!  Bout time they came to their senses!!

Our investigators fell back a little this week, they didn't come to church any of them and its been tough. We have one little girl who was really doing well but she didn't come so we have to push her back. She's been worked with for over a year now. Then a guy named Korie who is in the military so his schedule makes it really hard for him to come to church. The rest we're considering dropping because they haven't let us come see them all week. Its sad, because I know how much this gospel can bless their lives if they just let it. Anyway we were busy with member lessons and teaching less actives, this week blew by.

I'm so glad that you're continuing out at Virginia's and that things are improving for you! It makes me happy, You'll be a bodybuilder when I get back; you'll make me look bad! haha. I'm doing my best to do what I can with limited resources. The fruit is starting to ripen though so I'll be taking advantage of that! We only have two weeks left in the transfer, how nuts is that? I got a letter from Corynn's little sister today, I haven't read it but its the first paper mail I've gotten since I've come out, I'm pretty excited!! I'm trying to stay positive though. I'm working hard dad, and know that I'll never stop doing that. I know that this church is true, and I challenged you and mom to read the book of mormon every day together. I know that It will bless you guys cuz its blessed me so much out here already. I know that there are people here waiting to hear this message, and I'll do whatever I can to find them. I love you dad, keep working hard cuz that's where I learned how to do it.

Week Six

Hi Mom!!

Don't worry about the stuff to send me, the customs fees are crazy, so I don't want you guys to end up with a ridiculous fee for sending me clothes. I'll just get some here. This week was the fastest week yet.

We traded off with the APs Tuesday and Elder Largent took me out in our area. he was trained in the area just like me, and he said I definitely don't act like a greenie, and that he was treating me like a regular missionary which I thought was pretty cool.

We struggled again with our investigators coming to church, but we'll be better this week. I was able to keep one of our investigators from dropping us though, he almost didn't even let us sit down, but Elder Watchman got him to let us in and while he was out looking for a scripture I was able to help him understand what he could do to get the answer he was looking for. It was a neat experience.

The people here are so great, they love the missionaries and they take care of us. the Rampersads who I told you about last week I think live right next to us and they are awesome. I hope to go through the temple with them when I get back cuz I think that's when they're planning to go.

I'm glad you're back to a normal schedule, how's everything?  You must be getting excited, only a few weeks till Eric's back. I can't wait. Send me lots of pictures.

I love you mom!!!
I'm working hard I promise!!!

Hey Dad!!

That's so cool that you got to coach the kids one more time, and that Nolin got top ten! I hope he gets picked!! I'm so stoked that you're going to Virginia's!! That made me smile, I'm jealous! I do pullups on our stairs and a lot of pushups and abs. I'm gonna start curling a bucked full of either dirt or water and I've jump roped a couple of times. I get a lot of cardio cuz we walk pretty much everywhere. We take travel sometimes but primarily walk and you're constantly sweating.

We had some good food this week! Roti is like a bread type stuff that is bomb, but its so bad cuz its just carbs. I'm lucky we walk so much cuz I think the way people eat down here I would just turn into an elephant. We have a mango and an avocado tree in our backyard though so I'll be munching on that from now on I just found out about it today. I miss you guys a lot but know that I'm working my tail off.

The weather is starting to go into like rainy/hurricane season, but hurricanes dont effect Trinidad so much as the little islands. So its been hot and cool cuz of the cloud cover and rain. It rains like no other here. It will be a torrential downpour for 5 minutes and then just stop on a dime. Then it gets suuuuuper hot when the sun comes out again. but I love it here. I'm working hard and I've been working on level one certification its this thing where you memorize scriptures and things to help you become a better teacher. The current assistant was level one week 5, so thats my goal haha.

Oh I forgot to tell you, I broke the MTC record for consecutive 3's made. I hit 17 in a row. Pretty cool I just forgot to say something when it happened. I love you so much dad, and iIhope I'm making you guys happy with how I'm working. The work is tough but its the most rewarding in the world. I love you so much. Have a great week.

Week Five

Monday, May 28, 2012 1:25 PM
Hi Mom!!!

Things this week have been going pretty well, we're getting a lot more used to the area and the members here are awesome.

This family named the Sookhans feed us every sunday right after church and Sister Sookhan treats it like her calling. I tried rescheduling last week and I got a scolding about that haha. anyway he said thank you for bringing me and Eric up in a way to come out on a mission and help people, he's a convert from Hindu and he said he admires missionaries a lot.

This week we found 5 new investigators but unfortunately none of them came to church. its frustrating lemme tell you, especially when they say they're going to come. Right now all of them have a baptismal date of the 23rd of next month, but that will get pushed back if they don't start coming to church. We have one guy, Vishal, who we teach who got hit by a car and almost died, two steel rods in his leg and screws and the whole nine. he's really cool and we're actually teaching his mom, and cousin hopefully too!! So its all good things. The Rampersans are a really cool family who are members too. They live really close to us and its pretty nice, we stop by at the end of the day just to say hi a lot. I'm learning a lot from Elder Watchman, he's helping me with the things I'm not super good at just yet, and I've realized I have a long long ways to go. But its like Eric always says, I've only got 2 years so I've gotta make the most of it.

Church is probably my favorite part of the week. Taking the sacrament is so awesome and I have much more respect for the ordinance now then I ever did. I'm so grateful for how hard you and dad work in everything you do, because its helped me to keep working hard here. I miss you guys a lot and I'm glad you get today off. I'm glad that you guys enjoyed the Mariner game, just think next time Eric will get to come with!! Thats pretty exciting.

I love you mom,
Nick
